The blaze was knocked down a little more than an hour after it broke out before 1:30 at 952 Garrison Avenue in Teaneck, just off Route 4. No injuries were reported.
Teaneck firefighters were joined by their colleagues from Englewood and Hackensack (as the FAST team).
Ridgefield Park, Bogota and Bergenfield provided mutual aid or remained on standby.
The exterior flames were quickly knocked down, with assistance from a ladder truck, after the roof was vented.
Firefighters then made a push into the basement.
