North Jersey Regional Crime Prevention Officers stage fundraiser

HOW YOU CAN HELP: With their budgets slashed, police are spending more time than ever reacting to crime, making the need for the North Jersey Regional Crime Prevention Officers Association critical. The unique collection of law enforcement officers and civilians has a special event planned to help keep them going.

A beefsteak fundraiser featuring comedian Cliff Williams is set for Thursday, March 22 at the Hasbrouck Heights Elks Club on Baldwin Avenue.

Proceeds from the $45 tickets go toward the NJRCPOA’s seminars and other innovative educational programs for law enforcement officers, public safety officers and private security, while reinforcing the network of pro-active community police throughout the area.

The dinner includes fruit, pasta, beefsteak, fries, ice cream, bottled beer, wine and soda.

The event, which includes a deejay, runs from 6:30 to 10:30 p.m.

What makes the NJRCPOA unique is its emphasis on preventing crime before it happens through community policing. It’s an approach that many police chiefs say is being lost amid drastic staff cuts required by shrinking budgets.

Nearly all of the chiefs agree that spending all of their time reacting allows crime to grow and become worse. By pooling their resources and bringing private citizens into the mix, the NJRCPOA aims to hold the line.

Led by Hackensack Detective Lt. Jaime Barrios, the group “aims to unite police officers, security professionals and concerned business owners to help prevent crime and increase public safety.”

Keeping the group intact and functioning is the goal of next month’s fundraiser.
