YOU READ IT HERE FIRST: A self-admitted voyeur from Hackensack — charged the past several years with capturing upskirt images with his cellphone in New Jersey and Nevada — was at it again in the local Target, city police said this morning.
Christian J. Crews, 34, got the images by placing a mirror into a basket of items he had no intention of buying and then sidling up to women at the checkout line or picking out merchandise, “which gave him a clear view,” Detective Capt. Thomas Salcedo told CLIFFVIEW PILOT .
Three incidents were reported at the same Hackensack Avenue store, Salcedo said — one on July 10 and two on Tuesday.
Finding him was easy: Crews was sent to the Bergen County Jail on Wednesday for a probation violation stemming from a theft conviction out of Westwood.
Crews was nabbed on upskirting charges at the same Hackensack Target in June 2011, Salcedo noted.
Fourteen months earlier, he was charged with the same crimes following his arrest at a Saks 5th Avenue in Sparks, Nev., records show.
Police there said at the time that Crews admitted to taking the images and was into voyeurism.
A voyeuristic product of the Internet, upskirting is a cottage industry so prevalent that some states have passed new laws to address it, amid pleas by human rights organizations.
Upskirters will position their cells or cameras in low-hung bags, or they’ll stand under stairways or ride escalators. In one instance, a Kentucky middle school teacher was arrested after he was reportedly caught under the cheerleaders’ bleachers.
