ONLY ON CVP: A Ridgewood man who police said pulled a knife on them was indicted by a grand jury in Hackensack on two counts each of aggravated assault and illegal weapons possession, in addition to resisting arrest.
Four Ridgewood police officers and a Glen Rock officer working as an EMT responded to the Chestnut Street home of James Brown last Nov. 18 on a call from a maintenance worker who was having a dispute with him.
Brown cooperated at first, agreeing to go to the hospital for a psychiatric evaluation — then suddenly pulled a weapon the size of a Swiss Army knife, authorities said.
Acting quickly, the group snatched the knife and subdued him.
Detective Peter Youngberg and Officer Raymond Tarino were cut, though not severely — resulting in the aggravated assault charges.
Village officials later honored Youngberg, Tarino and the other responders — Ridgewood Sgt. Brian Pullman and Officer Rosario Vaccarella and Glen Rock Officer Murray Yang — with the Combat Cross.
Brown remained held on $50,000 bail this morning in the Bergen County Jail.
