YOU READ IT HERE FIRST: A 71-year-old wrong-way driver caused a head-on collision in Fort Lee that killed her 84-year-old husband, police said this morning.
Jennifer Park was driving her 2006 Hyundai Sonata south on northbound Inwood Tearrace, after heading the wrong way at the split after Central Boulevard, during yesterday morning’s rush hour when it rammed into a 2012 BMW X5 driven by 32-year-old Melissa Magyar, also of Fort Lee, Deputy Police Chief Timothy Ford said.
Officers from the Patrol Division, Detective Bureau and members of the Fort Lee Accident Investigation Unit immediately responded, Ford said.
Front-seat passenger Jong G. Park – who wasn’t wearing a seatbelt – was taken by Fort Lee Ambulance Corps to Hackensack University Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead about 40 minutes after the crash, Ford said.
His wife was also taken to the hospital, where she was treated for injuries that weren’t life-threatening, he said.
Mayar “refused medical attention at the scene and was later examined at Englewood Hospital,” Ford said.
Fort Lee’s Accident Investigation Unit and the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Fatal Accident Unit are investigating.
