YOU READ IT HERE FIRST: A 23-year-old Newark ex-con who was shot by police after ramming a stolen SUV into a Rutherford police car after crashing during a chase went to state prison for four years when he was 19 — following a chase.
Kashad Ashford ( mugshots above ), who died at Hackensack University Medical Center of his injuries just after 7 a.m., was released from state custody last December, records show.
He’d served more three years for aggravated assault, resisting arrest by fleeing in a motor vehicle — creating a risk of injury — and receiving stolen property.
The 6-foot-2-inch, 190-pound Ashford of Irvington and his passenger — fellow ex-con Jemmaine T. Bynes, 30, of East Orange — had a loaded .357-caliber Magnum handgun and a ski mask in the Nissan Armada, reported stolen out of Newark, acting New Jersey Attorney General John J. Hoffman said this afternoon.
Hoffman said they were out trying to steal other cars in North Arlington when a resident called police and an alert was broadcast. READ MORE….
