Dr. Joseph Feldman "made the personal commitment to the volunteer agencies and promised to continue making changes until a resolution is reached," one of nearly two dozen attendees told Daily Voice after a nearly two-hour meeting with hospital officials Tuesday night.
Members of the council's 24th District called the meeting -- also attended by colleagues from the 20th, 18th and 3rd at the Hackensack hospital -- to discuss what they said were "ongoing issues with the emergency room."
Hospital representatives included the ER's director, nursing supervisor, nurse manager and ALS and BLS coordinators, as well as the security, building operations and valet directors, they said.
One member said he's seen changes in how hospital staff interact with volunteers in his nearly 40 years. He also expressed gratitude to the officials for their efforts "to recreate the positive work relationship that once existed."
Follow-up meetings will be held to gauge progress, both sides said.
"Overall the meeting was deemed a success by those who attended," the 24th District representatives said in an official statement to Daily Voice. "The hospital representatives communicated effectively with the volunteer agencies and reiterated that the goal is to provide the highest quality of care to the patients who come to HackensackUMC.
"The members of the NJSFAC districts look forward to working with the staff at HackensackUMC to continue to deliver the highest quality of patient care."
