ROCHELLE PARK, N.J. -- John Joseph Connors, 70, of Rochelle Park and formerly of Ridgefield, passed away Thursday, July 28, 2016 after a courageous fight against cancer.
Connors was born in Yonkers and grew up in the Bronx near Van Cortlandt Park. He was a sergeant in the U.S. Army, and also a two-term councilman and baseball/softball coach for the borough of Ridgefield.
Throughout the years, Connors worked as a loan officer for Manufacturer's Hanover Bank (New York), as a bartender/manager for Legends, Pete's Pub and Whiskey Pete's (Palisades Park) and The Colonial (Ridgefield), as a manager for HMS Host Travel Plaza (Montvale) and as a teller/customer service representative for Lakeland Bank (Hackensack).
He was a die-hard fan of the New York Yankees and the Oakland Raiders, a past member of the Elks and American Legion and recently served as the chaplain for the Paramus VFW Post #6699.
Surviving are his wife Lisa (nee McAuliffe); sister Anna Connor; first wife and mother of his children Pat Connors; son John Connors and wife Stacey; daughter Joanne Kalnins and husband Andis; and five grandchildren, Caitlin, Michael, Patrick, Sydney and Ryder. Healso leaves behind his faithful fur babies Lady and Tramp, as well as many family and friends.
The family will receive friends from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday at the Vander Plaat Memorial Home, 113 S. Farview Ave., Paramus. There will be a funeral service at 10 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Interment willl be in George Washington Memorial Park in Paramus.
