HACKENSACK, N.J. -- The county freeholders agreed this week to hire a pair of retired detectives to investigate potential Medicaid fraud in Bergen County, according to NorthJersey.com.
The freeholders approved the agreement Dec. 1 with the Board of Social Services to provide the part-time investigators through the county’s Office of Consumer Protection, the story said.
Alex Morales, a management consultant for the Board of Social Services, said the investigators will help reduce a backlog of cases that have been flagged with discrepancies between benefits that people receive and the amount of income the report on their tax returns, said NorthJersey.com
So far this year, in-house investigators have been able to find $308,000 in state Medicaid claims that were overpaid, the story said.
