HACKENSACK, N.J. -- Happy birthday to veteran, actor and author, Hackensack's James McEachin. He will be 86 on Friday, May 20.

McEachin was in the U.S. Army before and during the Korean War. He was awarded both the Purple Heart and Silver Star. After his military service, he was a fireman and then a policeman in Hackensack, before moving to California.

He was briefly a record producer, working with singers like Otis Redding, but then moved on to acting. He had many guest roles on shows including "Hawaii Five-O," "Matlock," "Columbo" and "Dragnet," and he played police Lieutenant Brock in over a dozen Perry Mason TV movies. He also acted in a variety of films, including "Every Which Way But Loose" and "Sudden Impact."

McEachin then transitioned into writing, first writing an award-winning military history work, "Farewell to the Mockingbirds," then several novels and other books.
