HACKENSACK, N.J. -- The Bergen Volunteer Center has announced a new fall fundraiser that should be exciting and educational for all -- Bergen's Amazing Race -- on Sunday, Sept. 18.
The race is a scavenger hunt around Bergen County where 25 teams of two will compete in both mental and physical challenges. Teams will begin and end the race in Van Saun Park, in Paramus.
There will be a celebratory BBQ lunch and awards for first, second and third Place, plus awards for best team "uniform" and best team name.
"We have had a lot of excitement about this event already," said event coordinator Melissa LaRobardier. "We have about a quarter of the teams we can accommodate signed up and there is some stiff competition for best team name."
Teams can register here or call 201-489-9454, ext. 206, to get more information. The cost per two-person team is $100, if registered by June 30, and $150 afterward. Check-in begins at 8:30 a.m. For a full event schedule and more information, click here.
Families are invited to the park to cheer on teams and wait as they get back, at a cost of $10 for each person older than 3. Register here.
The event will also include a Fall Volunteer Festival, which will begin at 11 a.m. There will be music, food and activities to do for children and adults.
"This is a great community event that we hope brings a lot of people together," said Lynne Algrant, Bergen Volunteer Center's CEO. "So much good work happens in Bergen County and we want a way to show the people what volunteer work is out there for them."
All proceeds to this event will go toward the center's work, helping to transform children's and mother's lives, keeping the elderly and disabled safe in their homes, and continuing to develop future community leaders. The Bergen Volunteer Center engaged volunteers to meet community needs.
The group is celebrating 50 years of service to the community this year.
