MAYWOOD, N.J. — The Maywood 8U fall travel team won its second game in a row Sunday against Paramus.
The 7-4 victory was achieved with "good pitching, plate discipline and a timely hit or two," coach Keith Timmins said.
Kyle Timmins, Joe Buda, and Christian Figueroa each reached base safety every at bat and combined for 3 runs and two RBIs.
Austin Reiner pitched two scoreless inning and had a key 4th inning RBI.
"With a team of all 7-year-olds, the coaching staff and other coaches that help at our weekly clinics are focusing on improving the kids fundamentals and knowledge of the game," the coach said.
"By far, our team's biggest improvement in the fall is their knowledge of the strike zone and plate discipline.
"They are not swinging at pitches over their head and balls that are bouncing before the plate.
"However, they are not just standing their either they are looking to be aggressive and hit good pitches."
The team will face first-place Woodcliff Lake Sunday at 2 p.m. on Cleveland Field in Maywood.
