The grant money is among nearly $81 million in funding for projects that will enhance the quality of life of people throughout New Jersey, according to a press release from the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (DEP).

The funding would come from the DEP’s Green Acres Program, but the legislature still must approve legislation to officially appropriate the funds.

The grant would help the city of Garfield to redevelop the athletic complex at Semel and Palisade Avenues to serve as a resource for the entire community, according to the DEP.

The proposed project includes renovations to the football field, track and multipurpose fields, rehabilitation of tennis and basketball courts, restoration of the outer wall of the historic stadium on site, and improvements to seating and parking areas, according to the DEP.
