Capes Help Hackensack Kid ‘Superheroes’ Feel Brave

FRANKLIN LAKES, N.J. – Preschoolers in Franklin Lakes and Englewood Cliffs are helping other children to feel a bit braver as they receive treatment at local hospitals.

The kids – who attend The Learning Experience preschools – created superhero capes for pediatric patients at Hackensack University Medical Center and Englewood Hospital and Medical Center.

“These superhero capes are made to remind these patients how strong and resilient they truly are,” said Lisa Sanger, a nurse who owns The Learning Experience in Englewood Cliffs.

Dilek Yesilyurt, who owns the school in Franklin Lakes, said like superheroes, children receiving treatment can be described as “brave, strong and resilient.”

Both Yesilyurt and Sanger agreed that by creating the capes, the children in their schools learned about the importance of giving back.

“The Capes For a Cause program is part of our philanthropic initiative to help all of our students develop character by teaching them empathy and community involvement,” Yesilyurt said.
