Police were still seeking a second suspect after arresting Timothy Oneal, 47, of Paterson with help from the New Jersey State Parole Board and the Bergen County Prosecutor's Office, Capt. Darren Sucorowski said.

A judge ordered Oneal released, under New Jersey's 2017 bail reform law, a day after his April 3 arrest on burglary and theft charges, records show.

The Malcolm Avenue victims had returned home just before 6 p.m. Jan. 3 to find their front door forced open, Capt. Darren Sucorowski told Daily Voice at the time.

Seeing them, two burglars fled with cash and jewelry, he said.

The Bergen County Sheriff’s Bureau of Criminal Identification collected evidence and Garfield police put out the word to the public.
