The ATF, State Police Bomb Unit and Ocean County Prosecutor's Office joined the investigation into the blast, which occurred just after 1:30 a.m. in Barnegat, Al Della Fave of the prosecutor's office said.

Responders to Village Drive "found a cloud of smoke emanating from the remnants of a rubber trash can located curbside" and a debris field of a bout 10 yards, Della Fave said.

The Ocean County Sheriff’s CSI Unit also was participating in the investigation, he said.

"Neighbors will be interviewed and the debris analyzed to determine the cause of the explosion," Della Fave said.
