A bouncer from Bloomfield remained hospitalized under heavy sedation after being shot at a South Hackensack adult club Saturday night, as police searched for at least two assailants, law enforcement sources with knowledge of the incident told Daily Voice.

The Moonachie First Aid & Rescue Squad took the victim to Hackensack University Medical Center just before 10:50 p.m., following the shooting at the Player's Club on Huyler Street.

The 30-something bouncer from Bloomfield had a shattered shoulder blade and a punctured lung, and the bullet remained lodged against his spine, the friend told Daily Voice.

He'd begun working at the club about a year ago, the friend said.

The bouncer had removed some men from the club after a dispute, Capt. Robert Kaiser told Daily Voice.

Three of them returned about a half-hour later, he said.

"The bouncer was outside having a cigarette when one of them shot at him three to five times," Kaiser said. One of the bullets hit him in the back, he said.

Then they fled.

Bergen County prosecutor's detectives joined borough police and their colleagues from surrounding towns at the scene. An initial search was centered on Hackensack.

Detectives were reviewing surveillance video.
