Rochelle Park PD: Cadillac Driver Had $5,100+ In Shoplifted Cosmetics

ROCHELLE PARK, N.J. – A Paterson woman had more than $5,000 worth of stolen cosmetics stuffed into bags in her Cadillac CTS, left running across two parking spaces outside a Rochelle Park CVS where she’d just shoplifted nearly $150 worth of items, authorities said.

Stefany J. Davila-Toledo, 24, told officers called to the Rochelle Avenue store by security officers on Monday that she’d taken a bus there from Paterson and wasn’t carrying identification, Lt. Dean Pinto told Daily Voice.

Pinto said he and Officer Jared Shatkin found 13 stolen items in a leather handbag that security officers said she’d tried to hide as she headed for the door.

Shatkin took Davila-Toledo into custody after the name she gave them couldn’t be verified, while Pinto and backup Officer Brian Gallina reviewed security footage of her slipping the stolen good into her bag, the lieutenant said.

Because “her story about taking a bus from Paterson didn’t make sense with the known bus routes in the area,” Shatkin checked the parking lot and foiund the luxury sedan parked at an angle in two spots near an exit, Pinto said.

The engine was running, he said.

Inside, the officer could see a large duffel bag on the front passenger seat stuffed with cosmetics still in their original containers, Pinto said.

Shatkin spotted a similar bag on the floor, he said.

A search later turned up a bogus license plate from Texas, the lieutenant said.

Altogether, Davila-Toledo had 507 items marked for sale at between $8.99 and $13.99, he said.

“The original of these items could not be determined at the scene, as there were no receipts and the defendant refused to cooperate,” Pinto said.

An investigation was continuing.

Meanwhile, Davila-Toledo was released on a court summons charging her with receiving stolen property and shoplifting.
