Jose R. Fontana-Santana, 27, and Cesar A. Fontana-Veras, 26, both of Paterson, were arrested on money-laundering charges after investigators stopped their silver 2012 Ford Escape in Teaneck on Thursday and found the cash in a “sophisticated, after-market, electronic hidden compartment in the rear cargo area,” Bergen County Prosecutor Gurbir S. Grewal said.

“The currency was packaged in a way that is consistent with being the proceeds of narcotics sales,” Grewal said.

Both were released pending Dec. 6 first appearances in Central Judicial Processing Court in Hackensack, he said.
