Police say Fort Lee infant beaten, $1 million bail

A four-month-old infant was hospitalized with severe head injuries and a man who Fort Lee police said beat the child was ordered held on $1 million bail.

As of this afternoon, the infant was listed in stable condition, Fort Lee Police Chief of Police Keith Bendul said.

Arrested and charged with endangerment was Jishi Yu, 39, of Center Avenue, the chief said.

Fort Lee police and members of the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office Special Victims Unit arrested Yu yesterday after learning that the child had been admitted to Hackensack University Medical Center on Tuesday, Bendul said.

A judge ordered Yu, who is unemployed, to have no contact with the infant, the chief said.
