UPDATE: Teaneck police this morning officially confirmed that a man whose body was found on a Hackensack River mud bank about 25 feet from shore this weekend accidentally drowned.
John Tonincelli, 47, of Dumont, who police said had a schizo-affective disorder, was reported missing by his mother last Nov. 27 after he didn’t show up for Thanksgiving dinner at the Woodcrest Health Care Center in New Milford.
He was last seen Nov. 25 on Atlantic Street in Hackensack, authorities said at the time, adding that he didn’t drive or use public transportation, often walked around the western end of Dumont and into New Milford and ran from people he wasn’t familiar with.
His body was spotted face-up on a river mud bank off River Road near Downing Street just before 4 p.m. Saturday. It was later removed and taken to the Bergen County Medical Examiner’s Office in Paramus ( SEE: Body in Hackensack River in Teaneck ID’d as missing Dumont man, police say no foul play involved ).
In addition to the ME, the Bergen County Water Search and Recovery Unit, the county sheriff’s Bureau of Criminal Identification and Holy Name Medical Center ALS joined Teaneck police and firefighters at the scene in the township’s north end near Clarence W. Brett Park.
