MAYWOOD, N.J. -- A Maywood police officer making a routine stop found a Hasbrouck Heights man carrying two sandwich bags of pot, a blunt and more than $2,500 in suspected drug proceeds, authorities told Daily Voice on Friday.
Officer Shawn Patton stopped the 2006 Chevy Malibu on Essex Street shorty before midnight Wednesday and smelled raw marijuana, Detective Jason Liaban said.
A search turned up the bags -- labeled "dark pine" and "dead head" -- along with the hollowed-out, pot-filled cigar and the cash, he said.
The driver, 36-year-old Gabriel Vargas, was later released on a court summons charging him with 36, pot possession with the intent to distribute the drug and financial faciliation from criminal activity, among other counts.
