Maywood Pizza Delivery Robbers Get $50, Food

MAYWOOD, N.J. -- Two robbers in hoodies, one of them armed with a handgun, made off with nearly $50 -- as well as a pizza and soda -- after robbing a deliveryman Monday night in Maywood, authorities told Daily Voice.

"They called in a phony order, then robbed him," Police Chief David Pegg said.

The victim rang the bell of the home in the 400 block of Bergen Avenue around 10 p.m., Pegg said.

When he didn't get an answer, he turned and headed back to his car -- at which point one bandit emerged from behind the house and the other from across the street holding a gun, he said.

"Give me all your money," the gunman told him.

They also took the food and headed toward Passaic Street -- probably to a waiting car, Pegg said. Both were black and wearing hoodies, said the victim, who wasn't injured, the chief added.

A Bergen County Sheriff's K-9 unit joined Maywood police in searching the area. Hackensack and Rochelle Park police assisted.

Maywood police were canvassing the area Tuesday morning.
