Mark Todd, 43, not only has a criminal history dating back nearly 25 years.

He'd also been freed on $10,000 bail after Maywood police charged him with burglarizing five West Pleasant Avenue businesses last September.

That followed three previous arrests -- in Garfield, Hackensack and Hasbrouck Heights -- for which judges later released him.

Officer Greg Mulawka was checking businesses on Maywood's East Passaic Street overnight Tuesday while responding to a report from Hackensack's West Passaic Street when he found a bicycle just after 12:30 a.m., Police Chief David Pegg said.

He then heard a loud bang and saw 43-year-old Mark Todd running out the front door of Salon 115, Pegg said.

Mulawka and Sgt. Mary Tutschek chased Todd down and took him into custody, the chief said.

They charged him with burglary, theft, possession of burglary tools and resisting arrest after finding that he took $100 from the salon, Pegg said.

Todd was ordered held in the Bergen County Jail pending a detention hearing.

Hackensack police also were pursuing possible charges of their own.
