ONLY ON CVP: A 19-year-old Rutherford man already facing lewdness charges was indicted by a grand jury in Hackensack this week in another sex crime that authorities said ended in a scuffle with police officers.
Jahlil W. Pegeise told officers who found him in a rear driveway of a Hastings Avenue housing complex the night of Feb. 1 that he was walking around to “burn off some steam” — then admitted that he’d been masturbating in view of a child, authorities charge.
As they walked him to the police cruiser, Officers Frank Orlando and Curtis Moore said, Pegeise tried to break free. He then kicked Moore several times before they subdued him, they said.
The indictment against him charges Pegeise with exposing himself to a child, resisting arrest and assaulting a police officer.
Pegeise remained free on $25,000 bail, posted two days after his arrest.
Last August, two girls told police that Pegeise touched one of them inappropriately, for which authorities charged him with lewdness and two counts of criminal sexual contact. Those charges have yet to be resolved.
