Hillsdale crash injures three, two critically

UPDATE: A 77-year-old driver’s car rear-ended one driven by a 17-year-old girl before swerving into oncoming traffic and slamming head-on into another vehicle in Hillsdale on New Years Eve.

Firefighters extricated two of four people injured in the crash, one of whom was then flown by medical helicopter to Hackensack University Medical Center. All of the victims are from Hillsdale, said Police Sgt. Dan McLaughlin, who heads the department’s Traffic Division.

The crash occurred around 6:15 on Hillsdale Avenue. between Yesler Way and Saddlewood Drive, near the library.

A 55-year-old woman injured in the head-on collision was taken by ambulance to the George White School and picked up by AirMed One, McLaughlin told CLIFFVIEW PILOT .

The other two, including a 56-year-old man in her car, were taken by ambulance to HUMC, he said.

She and the 77-year-old driver were listed in critical condition this morning.

The teen later went to HackensackUMC in Westwood.

Several fire companies and ambulances responded, along with Hillsdale and Westwood police.

The cars were towed to the Hillsdale DPW building.
