CVP EXCLUSIVE: A Hackensack woman distraught over a breakup cut her wrists, set her mattress on fire, then texted photos to the man who dumped her — leading to arson charges, authorities said.
Firefighters rescued 30-year-old Kyunggin Jun after finding her passed out in her sixth-floor apartment at 130 Overlook Avenue around 2 a.m. of Oct. 21, 2013.
An indictment returned yesterday in Hackensack charges Jun with placing others in the 20-story high-rise in danger by starting the fire.
The ex-boyfriend called the high-rise doorman, who went upstairs and immediately summoned help, records show.
City firefighters were met with “a slight haze with an odor of burnin,”and then heavy smoke in the apartment, Fire Lt. Justin Derevyanik said at the time.
They found Jun on the floor, then carried her down the stairs to the fifth floor and took her to the lobby in an elevator.
The fire was under control in under 15 minutes.
Additional responders included Teaneck’s FAST, a ladder truck from Englewood and Hackensack Volunteer EMS. Companies from Ridgefield Park, Bogota and Bergenfield assisted the city with coverage.
Jun, who had superficial cuts on her wrists, was taken to Bergen Regional Medical Center for a psychiatric evaluation. She was later released without bail.
