HACKENSACK, N.J. -- A 19-year-old city man distraught over a breakup was fished from the Hackensack River after he jumped from the Anderson Avenue bridge around 1 a.m. Thursday, authorities said.
"They found him 50 yards from the riverbank, holding onto a bridge support," said Capt. Francesco Aquila, the officer in charge of the department. "He wasn't injured, just cold."
He was taken to Hackensack University Medical Center, the commander said.
City firefighters and EMS joined police. Oradell firefighters brought a rescue boat.
The span, which crosses a relatively shallow current just off River Street near the Teaneck border, is also known as the Cedar Lane Bridge.
