Carter remained in critical condition in Hackensack University Medical Center’s intensive care unit with injuries that also include more than 50 superficial stab wounds.

“He’s still alive,” a law enforcement official with direct knowledge of Carter’s condition told CLIFFVIEW PILOT tonight. “But he’s still succeptible to infection.”

Authorities are awaiting the results of blood tests to determine whether any narcotics were in the 43-year-old repeat violent offender’s system when he began cutting himself and throwing pieces of his intestines at police Sunday night.
