The incident occurred around 2 a.m. at Cedar and Summer streets when the gunman began shooting at officers who returned fire, authorities said.

The officers were brought to St. Joseph's Regional Medical Center for trauma evaluation, responders said.

Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes asked that anyone with information that could help her Shooting Response Team's investigation call 1-877-370-PCPO or email: tips@passaiccountynj.org.
