Sgt. Gino Sculco was monitoring borough surveillance cameras when he spotted 29-year-old Frank Redwood Jr. testing door handles in the 100 block of Bergen Boulevard just before 1 a.m. Monday, Police Chief Martin Kahn told Daily Voice.

There had been several car break-ins over the past week in that area, Kahn noted.

Officers Michael Hartmann and C.J. Turro rushed to the scene, where they grabbed Redwood of Harding Place, he said.

They charged him with burglary.Redwood also had two outstanding warrants, Kahn said.

He also has an adult criminal history that stretches back to when he turned 18, records show.

Given the circumstances, a judge ordered him held in the Bergen County Jail pending a bail hearing Monday.

"Not your typical arrest where a resident calls a suspicious individual in or an officer rolling up on them," Kahn noted.

In operation the past few years, the Fairview Borough-Wide Surveillance System (BWSS) has helped solve several crimes and catch law-breakers in the act, the chief said.
