ONLY ON CVP: Two Paterson ex-cons with huge rap sheets and active warrants fought with police from Paramus, Hackensack and Teaneck who arrested them moments after a violent $10,000 Englewood bank robbery, an indictment charges.
The indictment returned by a grand jury in Hackensack says that both the accused holdup man, Michael Hall, 53, and alleged getaway driver, 47-year-old Clarence Jones, resisted arrest and tried to injure the officers.
Hall was taken into custody following a violent struggle after they found him hiding in a garbage bin behind a Route 4 strip mall in Paramus moments after the June 21 robbery of the Chase Bank branch on Grand Avenue
Moments earlier, a Teaneck officer who stopped the getaway car arrested Jones — who at the time was wanted on warrants out of Cliffside Park, Glen Rock, Ridgewood and Englewood
The pair have 22 felony convictions between them.
A “very courageous and dedicated” bank employee got police to the scene moments after Hall ( above, left ) entered the bank wearing a disguise and passed a threatening note.
As Hall fled with the cash, the manager followed him through city’s busy downtown for about two blocks and saw him get into a red Nissan Altima on South Dean Street, Detective Capt. Timothy Torell said at the time.
Jones ( above, right ) was behind the wheel, he said.
Englewood police issued a description of Hall and the car over the State Police Emergency Network.
Almost immediately, Teaneck Police Detective Stephen Ramirez, who was working patrol for the day to assist with manpower demands spotted the red Altima on the westbound highway near River Road and eventually stopped it in Paramus near the Jewelry Exchange.
Both occupants bailed out, he said.
Ramirez grabbed Jones after a struggle and broadcast a description of Hall, who headed behind the Chuck E. Cheese restaurant, police said.
A short time later, Hackensack Police Sgt. Niles Malvasia and Officer Ralph Cavallo tangled with Hall.
The Altima was impounded and the cash and disguise recovered.
Hall remained held on $502,500 bail in the Bergen County Jail this morning and Jones on $201,636 bail.
