Shawn T. Hopper has run from and tangled with police before, having been charged with eluding police, resisting arrest and aggravated assault on officers. His record also includes burglary and drug convictions.

Rochelle Park police tried to stop Hopper, 40, who was behind the wheel of a rented car around 10 o’clock last night.

But the gray 2012 Nissan Altima sped off, Maywood Police Sgt. Mark Gillies told CLIFFVIEW PILOT this morning.

They pursuit headed south on Route 17 and onto Route 80 before the Altima exited into Hackensack, he said.

In both holdups, the robber gave the teller a note demanding cash in $100s, $50s, $20s and $10s. He was also wearing very similar clothing (SEE: Same robber eyed in Maywood, Elmwood Park bank holdups).

Hopper, who spent five months in state prison for a 2008 drug conviction and was convicted for a burglary last year, was identified through bank survelliance photos and a fingerprint found on the demand note he used in the Maywood holdup.

Arrest warrants charging him with both robberies carry $50,000 bail, records show.

The license plate on the car: W20 AAS
