Dyfs investigating near-drowning of boy, 4, in Westwood

YOU READ IT HERE FIRST: DYFS is looking into the near-drowning of a 4-year-old boy found alone and lifeless in a backyard family pool this weekend, and the Bergen County Prosecutor’s Office has been notified, Westwood Police Chief Frank Regino told CLIFFVIEW PILOT this afternoon.

“The latest word is that the child is still critical but stable at Hackensack University Medical Center,” Regino said.

“If his condition changes, it would be up the [Bergen County] Prosecutor’s Office to determine what steps to take as far as an investigation” into why the youngster was left alone,” the chief said.

The boy’s mother found him in the pool behind the Westwood Boulevard home after police were called on a report that he was missing.

Hillsdale Ambulance Corps. workers resuscitated the boy, with help from police, after a family member carried him to the street.
