The driver told police he was parked in the lot of a strip mall at 123 Anderson Street before dawn Saturday when a man approached and asked for a ride.

He said he explained that he couldn’t take fares that way and that a call must be made to arrange a ride.

The man left but returned five minutes later, the driver said.

This time he pulled a gun and demanded money, Capt. Thomas Salcedo told CLIFFVIEW PILOT.

The driver had onlly $22, but the robber took that and took off on foot, with the driver tailing him in his car, “giving updates to the 911 operator,” Salcedo said.

Within minutes, Officers Officer Brett McCarthy, Mark Delcarpio, Matthew Jacobsen and John Knapp were on the scene.

Salcedo said the suspect struggled with them before being subdued. They recovered an automatic handgun.

Raymie Middleton, 21, is being held on $75,000 bail in the Bergen County Jail, charged with robbery, weapons possession resisting arrest, eluding and possession of a small amount of drugs.
