“Anyone with an interest in the quality of life for Bergen County’s 190,000 senior adults is encouraged to voice their concerns regarding the needs of this growing population,” Donovan said today.
“We are anxious to receive public input so that our Division of Senior Services can continue to improve services and programs offered,” she said.
WHAT: Public hearing on needs of Bergen seniors

WHERE: 5th floor Public Meeting Room, One Bergen County Plaza, Hackensack
Congress and President Obama have been at odds over funding for the Older Americans Act, first signed into law in 1965.
Local legislators have warned that deep cuts are possible.
Donovan is already on record saying that she will not allow cuts in county funding for senior services. She said she wants to find ways of maintaining the level of services for the Division of Senior Services’ $6.2 million budget, 60 percent of which comes from federal funding.
Participants providing oral testimony at next week’s public hearing will have five minutes to speak. All written testimony must be submitted to the Bergen County Division of Senior Services prior to May 3rd. Any person bringing prepared statements must bring 10 copies for the panel.
The panel is expected to include representatives from the Board of Social Services, Bergen County Department of Community Development, Division of Disability Services, Senior Services’ Advisory Council, Bergen County Housing Authority, Human Services Advisory Council and elected officials from state and local government.
For more information or details about testifying at the hearing, or if you have special needs and require accommodations, contact Eleanor Contreras: (201) 336-7416.
Assistive Listening Devices and CART Services are available.
