MAYWOOD, N.J. -- Joseph "Bobby" Travers, a Maywood resident, formerly of the Bronx, died Tuesday, Jan. 26. He was 70.
Before retiring, Travers worked for the New York Board of Education as a Spanish teacher at JHS Wade 117X. He was also a member of a doo-wop group, the Esquires.
He "was an animal lover, especially his four-legged friends, Lexie, Pepper, Lucky, Baby and Cookie," according to obituary information from the Vander Plaat Memorial Home. "He had a long-standing relationship with his cockatrice Petey."
Travers is survived by his wife of 44 years, Violet "Vikki" (Navarro) Travers; his children, Elena Travers of Maywood and Jaclyn Travers of Wallington; his grandchildren, Gia Gabriella Brown and Gabrielah Gracie Soto; his siblings, Carmella Colantonio, Anne Fantacone and Debra Ramos; and a nephew, Louie Colantonio.
Visiting hours were scheduled from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Friday, Jan. 29, at the Vander Plaat Memorial Home, 113 S. Farview Ave., Paramus. A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 30, at the funeral home. Interment will be in Laurel Grove Memorial Park in Totowa.
