John J. McFadden III, 72, Hackensack Resident

HACKENSACK, N.J. -- John J. McFadden III, of Hackensack, died on Monday, Sept. 26. He was 72.

Born in Washington, D.C., McFadden was raised in Radburn. He graduated from St. Bonaventure University with a degree in classics and then served with the U.S. Army Reserve for six years. His professional career began as a Latin teacher in Cattaraugus County, New York.

McFadden then joined the training program at First Boston Cooperation, where he would work for 26 years. At Credit Suisse First Boston, he was both treasurer and vice president of Reinvestments. After he retired in 1994, he was as senior partner with Cambridge Partners, a New York City investment firm, and also sat on the boards of several small energy companies.

In 2007, he toured China as a guest of ABAT, a Chinese energy company.

McFadden is survived by his wife, Helen Patricia "Trish" McFadden; daughter Anne Elizabeth; son John Edward; and sisters Patricia Dombal and Elizabeth McFadden.

He was predeceased by his parents, Mary Elizabeth "Betty" and John McFadden Jr.

A funeral mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 1, at St. Anne Roman Catholic Church, 15-05 St. Anne St., in Fair Lawn. Vander Plaat-Caggiano Funeral Home, in Fair Lawn, is assisting with arrangements.
