Ho-Ho-Kus Flower Shop Owner 'Died A Hero' At Point Pleasant Beach

WALDWICK, N.J. – Glen A. Carullo of Waldwick will be remembered as the man who gave his life to save another's.

The 60-year-old Ho-Ho-Kus flower shop owner died "saving someone's life" on Sunday, according to his obituary .

Carullo went into the ocean in Point Pleasant Beach to help a struggling swimmer, when he too went under, according to witnesses. He was pronounced dead that day at Ocean Medical Center.

“This man went into the water to save another woman who got pulled out by the current. This man gave his life to save a complete stranger. He died a hero,” shared Ashley Renna, who said she was at the beach Sunday.

Carullo and his wife Margaret owned the Ho-Ho-Kus Florist and Gift Shop for over 35 years.

In addition to Margaret, Carullo is survived by his son Thomas and his wife Christina, son Kevin and his wife Candice and daughter Alissa Frascatore and her husband Paul. He is also survived by his brother Jesse and his wife Janet.

Visitation will be held on Thursday from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at St. Luke's RC Church, 340 N. Franklin Turnpike, Ho-Ho-Kus. A funeral mass will be celebrated on Friday at 10 a.m. at St. Luke's RC Church with interment to follow at St. Luke's Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Carullo may be made to St. Luke's Church.
