Malin was diagnosed with leukemia when he was 4 years old, and was in remission nine times, according to a GoFundMe page created to raise money to help him leave the hospital and be cared for at home.

“Edward has fought harder in his life than a child should ever have to,” the page states.

Arlena Jones, who created the fundraising page, announced his passing to supporters.

“I must let you know, with a massively heavy heart, that Edward passed,” she wrote. She said the money raised would help Edward’s family with next steps.

In a Facebook post, Edward’s father, Ted Malin, remembered his son as “such a positive happy person who laughed hard every day.”

“Rather than allowing this news to ruin your day, instead think about something funny or happy about Edward or about your own life,” he wrote. “Enjoy each day (even today)! Take your family out for ice cream, drink wine on your porch and breath the summer air. That's the lesson we all should learn about how Edward lived.”
