Surveillance Video Appears To Capture Hackensack Officers Picking Locks

HACKENSACK, N.J. — Surveillance footage acquired by NorthJersey.com that appears to depict Hackensack police picking the lock of a Prospect Avenue apartment building last year has become a new piece of evidence in an internal affairs investigation.

Recently-released surveillance video has become a key part of an internal investigation in the Hackensack police department.

The video depicts the only uniformed officer accompanied by six others in street clothing trying to open the locked lobby door of Sheldon Arms apartments.

When that doesn't work, a detective appears to crouch down and then, pop — the door swings open.

Daily Voice originally reported in May that those six officers had been suspended, and amid an administrative investigation were the unit commander, the second-in-command and two detectives and two patrol officers, multiple law enforcement sources confirmed.

As a result, the Bergen County Prosecutor's Office dropped charges in eight criminal cases after the officers in question allegedly conducted an illegal search.
