    75%

Beginning Tuesday, taxes will go from 14.5 cents per gallon to 37.5 cents per gallon.

Gov. Chris Christie and New Jersey's Democratic-led Legislature agreed to raise the gas tax by 23 cents.

This will be the first time taxes have been raised in New Jersey since 1988.

The change was effected the day following the fatal Hoboken train crash, which shed light on the low balance in New Jersey's Transportation Trust Fund — used to fund railroad, street and bridge improvements.
