Piscopo, Lautenberg Among First Named To Passaic Hall Of Fame In Paterson

PATERSON, N.J. – Actors Joe Piscopo and Lou Costello and U.S. Senator Frank Lautenberg were among the first names to be inducted into the Passaic County Hall of Fame in Paterson Tuesday.

The Passaic County Board of Chosen Freeholders announced the creation of the hall of fame and the first generation of honorees during a ceremony at the William J. Bate Courthouse Plaza in Paterson.

The first generation of inductees are:

  • Larry Doby, a three sport all-state athlete while in high school in Paterson, later went on to be the second African American to play in the major leagues;
  • Joe Piscopo, a Passaic-born comedian and actor famous for his work on Saturday Night Live;
  • The Shirelles, a girl group formed for a talent show at Passaic High School that gained fame during the 1960’s;
  • Bucky Pizzarelli, a talented jazz guitarist born in Paterson;
  • Lou Costello, an actor and comedian born in Paterson, who starred in the comedy act, Abbot and Costello;
  • Senator Frank R. Lautenberg, a five-term U.S. senator originally from Paterson.
