Maywood Police Warn Residents Of Rabid Raccoon

MAYWOOD, N.J. -- The Maywood Police Department is warning residents of a rabid raccoon that was recently found in the borough.

The sick animal was found at Our Lady Queen of Peace, 404 Maywood Ave.

Authorities remind residents that rabies is a fatal viral disease if untreated. 

Any mammal can carry rabies, if infected. A rabid animal may act aggressive, friendly, active or lazy. They urged people not to feed, handle or approach wild or unknown animals, including cats and kittens.

All animal bites or scratches should be reported to the Maywood Police Department at 201-845-8800.
