HACKENSACK, N.J. – The unveiling of a commemorative street sign erected in honor of Rev. Dr. James P. Coleman takes place at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 25 at the corner of Central and 2nd streets in Hackensack.
Coleman, who died in 1982 at the age of 52, led his congregation from the old Mount Olive Baptist Church, on James Street, to its current location on Central Avenue.
Followers said he worked to improve the quality of lives in the church, the community, the nation and the world.
Coleman, who was a Hackensack Fire Department chaplain, was especially effective in the city and in Bergen County, they said.
