More than 40,000 signatures had been collected by Bloomingdale's Lisa Rose-Rublack, who recently launched a petition to relocate the injured bear to a wildlife sanctuary.

Last week, legislation advanced through the New Jersey Assembly to remove black bears from the list of gaming animals.

Bergen County Assemblyman Tim Eustace is among the four lawmakers who hope to stop the hunting of black bears.
