HACKENSACK, N.J. -- Bergen County commemorated the 100th Anniversary of the 1916 Easter Rising this week, by hosting an Irish flag raising ceremony.
"The Easter Rising, also known as the Easter Rebellion, was an armed insurrection in Ireland during Easter Week in 1916," Bergen County Executive Jim Tedesco noted in a Facebook post, with a series of photos from the event.
"The Rising was organized by Irish Republicans to end British rule in Ireland and establish an independent Irish Republic," he continued. "I want to personally thank the the Council of Irish Associations of Greater Bergen County, Inc, and congratulate the honorees for their work in the Bergen County community."
