West Milford To Honor Late Firefighter For More Than 50 Years Of Service

WEST MILFORD, N.J. – A late West Milford man who served as a volunteer firefighter in the township for more than 50 years will be posthumously honored with a lifetime volunteer award, NorthJersey.com reports.

Alfred “Fred” Stewart, a former deputy fire commissioner and chief of West Milford Volunteer Fire Company 6, was selected by a committee of former mayors for the 2016 Mary B. Haase Lifetime Volunteer Award, according to the article.

Stewart died in November after falling from a ladder while on maintenance duty at the firehouse. He was 79.

He will be honored during a ceremony before the 6:30 p.m. council meeting on April 19, at town hall, the story says.
