Salvation Army volunteers, including Congressman-elect Josh Gottheimer, will feed the working poor, seniors and families on Thanksgiving, Nov. 24, from 8:30-10:45 a.m.
The 6th annual Thanksgiving Breakfast will include pancakes, eggs, bacon, sausage, coffee, tea and juice.
A youth group will sing carols. Lieutenant Amarilis Ayala of The Salvation Army Hackensack Corps will be on hand to assist with the event.
“We want to address families’ needs by providing breakfast, the most important meal of the day, because many people go without it on Thanksgiving and most days,” said Ayala of The Salvation Army Hackensack Corps. “While The Salvation Army helps people year round, during the holidays we look for ways to make a real impact on people’s lives.”
The breakfast will take place in the basement of the Second Reformed Church (Anderson Street entrance), 436 Union St., Hackensack.
One of the largest charitable and service organizations in the world, The Salvation Army has been in existence since 1865 helping those in need without discrimination. It is the largest social services organization in New Jersey and the second largest disaster relief organization in the state. The Salvation Army provides food for the hungry, companionship to the elderly and ill, clothing and shelter to the homeless, opportunities for underprivileged children, relief for disaster victims, assistance for the disabled and many more services to those in need.
Considered one of the nation’s most effective charities, nationally about 83 cents of every dollar raised is used to support the Army’s services and programs for the needy. Since 1891, the Hackensack Corps Service has been working to meet the needs of the residents throughout the county.
