'I'm Walking For Hope,' Says Montvale Woman Honoring Late Sister

MONTVALE, N.J. -- It's not fair when someone dies at 42.

"Meredith Joy Kawer was the most amazing, most inspirational woman I knew," said her sister Rosalyn of Montvale. "She loved living life and getting involved with all kinds of walks.

"All my sister ever wanted was to live a full life and have babies and never got that opportunity."

Instead, Meredith passed away in April from metastatic breast cancer, after a four-year battle.

The date forever changed Rosalyn -- and her mom, Karen's life.

And it's why Rosalyn is participating in an American Cancer Making Strides walk in October in her sister's honor.

It was a phone call on her sister's phone, in fact, that led her to set up a Making Strides page telling her sister's story. Rosalyn was in a Verizon store about to return her sister's phone when it rang -- and David from the American Cancer Society was on the line.

After he initially asked about Meredith -- he didn't know she had died -- the two got to talking about a subject near and dear to Meredith's heart -- the October walk she did under the heading "Meredith's Princess Warriors."

Rosalyn is now actively seeking funds, taking up her sister's torch.

"I am walking because I know she would want me to," writes Rosalyn on her page. "I’m walking to inspire hope."

Her goal is to raise $500 but she'd be happy to raise more. Go HERE to view her page; HERE for her t-shirt page.

She is also working to raise funds through the gym she attends, UFC in Paramus.
